Using Our Freedoms For His Glory

Today we remember those who laid down their lives for our nation’s freedom. Every Memorial Day weekend I can’t help but to think of the privilege that I had to serve for eight years in the United States Air Force; but much more than this, I pause and give thanks for the many who also served in our nation’s armed forces, doing so by sacrificing their own lives for our freedom. As a family, we continually thank the Lord for the freedoms that we have in this nation – freedoms that are secured by the sovereign hand of God, through the ultimate sacrifices of many. May we be on guard not to squander those freedoms, but to use them for His ultimate glory. As believers in Christ let us employ our freedoms to the fullest by telling others about the true freedom that is found in Christ alone, who made the greatest sacrifice of all by laying down His life for our sin.

1 Peter 2:16-17

16 Act as free men, and do not use your freedom as a covering for evil, but use it as bondslaves of God. 17 Honor all men; love the brotherhood, fear God, honor the king.

John 8:34-36

34 Jesus answered them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, everyone who commits sin is the slave of sin. 35 “And the slave does not remain in the house forever; the son does remain forever. 36 “If therefore the Son shall make you free, you shall be free indeed.”
